How long does a cat’s pregnancy last?
When can a cat get pregnant?
As a rule, reproductive age in cats occurs at 5-9 months. If the cat is domestic, she does not go outside and her contacts with cats are under control, then pregnancy can be planned, and then she will not be a surprise. With cats that have access to the street, it’s different: they can work up offspring, and pregnancy will become noticeable by changing habits and a rounded belly, but it will be difficult to determine the approximate date of birth.
How long does a cat’s pregnancy last?
Usually pregnancy in a cat lasts between 65-67 days (about 9 weeks). But this period can differ both up and down. For example, in short-haired cats, pregnancy lasts – 58-68 days, while long-haired cats bear offspring longer – 63-72 days. When getting a Siamese cat, it is important to keep in mind that her pregnancy will be shorter than other breeds.
In addition, a shorter period is often due to multiple pregnancies.
Birth not on time
Even with a completely normal course of pregnancy, childbirth can occur later than the expected date, within the normal range of one week of delay. The reasons may be different – for example, a stressful situation. However, if the cat has not given birth after 70 days of pregnancy, you should immediately consult a doctor, as this can be dangerous for both her and the kittens.
If kittens are born, on the contrary, a week before the due date, this is normal, but if they are born before 58 days, they will not be viable.
