How do the needs of a kitten change when he becomes an adult?

Your kitten will grow up and become an adult by 12 months. He may still act like a mischievous kitten, but his needs will change. Now that he is fully grown, he will need an adult food that will provide the necessary levels of nutrients, vitamins and minerals that he needs in adulthood.

Feeding

Adult cats do not require as much energy as kittens, so if you continue to feed kitten food, your cat may gain weight. Your veterinarian will be happy to advise you on your pet’s diet and recommend suitable food for adult cats. It is best if you start transitioning her from kitten food to adult cat food gradually over five to seven days to help her get used to the new taste and texture.

Vaccination

At around 14 months of age, your veterinarian will recommend a booster vaccination to keep your cat immune. This is also an excellent time to take measures to protect the animal from parasites: treatment is carried out against fleas, lice and worms.

Physical activity

Now that the cat has grown and matured, it needs regular exercise to keep fit and healthy. Physical activity not only keeps her body in shape, but also keeps her mind alive, healthy and happy.

Also, if you haven’t already, now is a good time to discuss the benefits of spaying your cat with your veterinarian.
