How do cats react to their owner’s mood?

In fact, this is not entirely true, and sometimes not at all. Yes, some cats do “walk on their own,” but most animals are sincerely attached to their owners. Plus, they know perfectly well who their well-being and a full bowl of food ultimately depend on, and they are ready to adapt to the mood of the owners. At least in order to get as much benefit as possible for yourself.

Cats are born predators, able to patiently hunt down and study their prey for a long time. They also closely observe the owners, noting changes in mood and analyzing people’s actions. And the longer the cat lives in the family, the easier it is to understand what mood the owners are in. Graceful pets try not to catch the eye of the owners if they see that they are in a bad mood, and are joyfully ready to play or cuddle if the owners are happy with life and smile.

The fact that cats perfectly capture the mood of their owners is also evidenced by the data of scientists. So, quite indicative in this regard is the study conducted by employees of the University of Oakland (Michigan, USA) Moraya Galvan and Jennifer Vonk.

Their experiments involved 12 cats and their owners. By observing the behavior of animals, scientists have found that it directly depends on the mood of their owners. The cats purred contentedly, rubbed against their legs and sat happily on their owners’ laps if they smiled, and tried to move away or even leave if the owners frowned.

At the same time, these same animals showed completely neutral behavior with strangers, practically not reacting to the emotions of strangers. 

Based on their experiments, Moraya Galvan and Jennifer Vonk came to the conclusion that domestic cats are able to read people’s emotions, but this skill is acquired for them and depends on how long the cat communicates with a particular person.

But this is dry scientific data. And most cat owners, even without scientists, can say that their pets are able to understand whether a person is ill or happy. Some cats know how to comfort people, respond to affection and be even more emotionally close than dogs. 

Perhaps people themselves simply do not understand cats well, so they considered them emotionally cold and distant. Or maybe not everyone can find the key to the cat’s heart.
