Houseplants and Sprouted Parrot Food

Many owners are tormented by doubts: is it possible to allow a parrot to feast on indoor plants, and if not, what can be offered in return? Let’s try to figure it out.

Useful and harmful house plants for a parrot

In many homes, both poisonous and non-poisonous plants coexist peacefully. It’s not scary until you have a pet. But so that the parrot does not get poisoned, it is better to remove all poisonous plants from the room where it lives. If you do not limit the freedom of the pet, you, alas, will generally have to abandon dangerous green spaces. A parrot can safely enjoy the following plants:

  • Chlorophytum
  • Kalanchoe
  • Bamboo
  • Roses
  • Chinese rose (hibiscus)

Houseplants and Sprouted Parrot Food

Sprouted food for a parrot at home

An excellent nutritious food for a parrot is sprouted grains, which contain many vitamins and valuable nutrients, thanks to which they have a good effect on the health of parrots. What is the difference between sprouted grains and dry ones? In sprouted grains, the content of B vitamins, vitamin E, fiber and sugar increases, vitamin C appears. And phytates, which block the absorption of magnesium, calcium, zinc and some other minerals by the body, break down. So sprouted food stimulates the vital activity of the body, increases immunity, and has a positive effect on metabolism. In winter, the need for such feed increases markedly, because there are not enough useful substances in vegetables and fruits, and they can only be replenished by feeding germinated grain. In addition, such food is simply indispensable during molting and rearing of young animals. What kind of grain can be germinated?

  • Simple
  • Buckwheat
  • Oat
  • Barley
  • Wheat and more

However, do not get carried away and germinate a bag of grain at a time. Remember that germinated food is stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2 days. Responsibly approach the process of steaming grain. Even just swollen grains that have not yet hatched are healthy food for a parrot.
