Horses – myths and legends

For about 5 thousand years, horses have been side by side with humans. During this time, they managed to become not only indispensable helpers in the craft, friends and sports fighters, but also part of the culture of various peoples.

On the eve of Halloween, we will tell you about the most unusual horses and legends shrouded in secrets…

Horses – myths and legends

Kelpie

Meeting with this creature you will not wish even the enemy. In Scottish mythology, the Kelpie is a water spirit. The Scots represent him as a werewolf who can take on various forms. However, most often Kelpie can be seen as a horse. The appearance is described in many ways, but one cannot confuse the creature’s eyes, which attract like a magnet, which are either full of tears or filled with bright light. With all his appearance, Kelpie lures a person to sit on his back, and then quickly plunges into the abyss with him. It is impossible to jump off the creature, as Kelpie, by unknown forces, makes a person stick to his body. Therefore, if you suddenly find yourself near a reservoir and see hoof marks on the shore, set back to front, it is better to choose another place to relax.

Hel horse

A lonely ghost with an unfortunate fate, but with deadly intentions. Unlike Kelpie, he is more selective, but it is better to avoid meeting with him, and especially his gaze. Many years ago, there was a ritual: before burying the dead in the new cemetery, a horse was buried alive there. Horses of Hel are the names of those unfortunate souls. The townsfolk say that they saw a ghost either decapitated or walking on three legs. But those who saw, quickly died. Therefore, stories about the horse Hel were most often told by old people. Death, is that you?

Kirin

The ray of light in this frightening company is the Japanese (Oriental) unicorn or simply Kirin. Although the creature has quite a few aggressive traits, the Kirin is described in legend as a representative of the law and a fighter for justice. The appearance of the Kirin on the courts always ended with the brutal death of the guilty and the salvation of the innocent. You can see a deity in two cases: the beginning of a new era and the birth of a great leader. If we assume that we are talking about astrological eras, then the next change will occur in 2219. A bit far… Plan B remains. Mother Confucius met the deity before his birth. So we are waiting for the birth of a new leader.

Meeting the Kirin is a worthwhile thing, because the lucky ones who managed to catch eye contact with the deity even for a moment will be accompanied by good luck and prosperity throughout their lives.

Q’yaard

The next creature can only be encountered if you miraculously wander into Tartarus*. Failures in navigation happen to everyone, but not so much … Therefore, we can only get acquainted in absentia with K’yaard, a representative of ancient Greek mythology.

* Tartarus – in Greek mythology means the deepest abyss under the kingdom of Hades, where Zeus threw Kronos and the Titans. Cyclopes were also imprisoned there.

The demonic being has exceptional intelligence, conceit, and character. Only a vampire can ride K’yaard, given that the demon chooses its own rider. Many vampires were even forced to give up their K’yaard, as they not only felt stupider than their silent companion, but also could not find an approach to him. The fact is that K’yaard will never allow himself to be forcibly tamed and enslaved. If, nevertheless, the rider builds trust, then K’yaard will become his most devoted friend.

Interesting fact: K’yaards have a fantastic skill to detect and bypass various traps, dips, pits, swamps, etc.

Fasfer

Another demonic horse, whose fate did not turn out well. Phasfer became a victim of human cruelty. They caught him and put him in chains, put on and tightened a bridle with a rusty snaffle, and also stuck a chain in his back, so much so that it came out of his stomach. Of course, the creature to this day has not been able to forgive people for the suffering they have endured. Fasfer better not be seen, because now he kills everyone who meets him on his way.

Tersan

The appearance of a sea creature is due to a romantic story with a tragic end. Once Tersanov created Neptune to save his beloved mermaid. People caught her – they wanted to show the whole world, but, as a result, they killed her. When Neptune and a hundred Tersans finally found the mermaid, she was already dead. Now the Tersans are destined to go out to the seashore every night and leave scarlet bloody footprints in memory of Neptune’s beloved.

Tersans are very beautiful creatures. When they go ashore, they transform into snow-white horses for a few minutes. Their strength can be compared with the power of a tsunami, their speed of movement with a hurricane, and their beauty with the ocean. But at the same time, Tersans are extremely unpredictable. They can save a person, they can, on the contrary, drown. Since Tersanov is considered the judges of the underwater kingdom, it can be assumed that, like Kirin, creatures determine the fate of a person by his actions.

Sleipnir

The horse of the most powerful God from Scandinavian mythology – Odin. According to the legends, Sleipnir has 8 legs and can move between worlds. No wonder “Sleipnir” is translated as “Sliding”. The story of the birth of Sleipnir is interesting. The favorite and indispensable horse of Odin, it turns out, is a mistake. God Loki, a mocker and a rogue, once decided to have fun by changing images. So he turned into a mare to distract Svadilfari (the horse with which the giant built Asgard) from construction work, which later led to the birth of little Sleipnir. The faithful horse of Odin also symbolizes the wind blowing from eight main points. Festral

Nightmares of Greek myths, huge skeletal horses. Thestrals can only be seen by those who have already known death. Creatures are invisible to others. Oddly enough, you can make friends with Thestral and even fly over the sky together. The fact that horses are perfectly oriented in space will definitely play into your hands. Thestral’s image was even used in the Harry Potter films.

Leber

An amazing Scottish representative of the magical world is a horse with swan wings. You can catch a herd of Lebers near Loch Ness in Scotland. If you manage to meet them, keep in mind that Leber is the embodiment of loyalty. The creature will never betray. If Leber was lured by your soul, then he will be with you until the very end. The case when the appearance and internal feelings completely coincide, which cannot be said about the last mythical creature in this article

Amistr

A gloomy mythical creature whose origin is unknown to anyone. Amisters are considered one of the most unusual mystical horses. An intimidating appearance can create a negative impression, but in fact, Amisters are very kind and devoted horses. Rumor has it that Amystra is not as hard to tame as it is to find. The fact is that the creature is not entirely material. It is created from magic, fire and night, for the same reason it cannot be killed.

And yet, each of these horses is only the fruit of many years of human fantasy, or maybe not … At least, mythical creatures are an exaggeration of real ones. Tell me that you also recognized your horses, for example, in K’yaard or Tersan?

We wish you a Happy Halloween!
