Home first aid kit for turtles
Many asked – what preparations should I have at home in case the turtle suddenly gets sick?
This question is difficult to answer, because depending on the disease, different medicines are needed, and besides, if you have only one turtle and you have kept it correctly from the very beginning, then it has very little chance of getting sick. If you keep several turtles, are engaged in overexposure, keep other reptiles, then there are a few things that you should have in your home:
- Baytril 2,5% – antibiotic (used for pneumonia and other diseases);
- Solcoseryl / Boro-plus (cream) – smear on wounds;
- Solcoseryl (in ampoules) – for better healing of large wounds;
- Eleovit – vitamins in case of beriberi and for prevention (prick no more than once every six months);
- Calcium borgluconate – used for calcium deficiency;
- Ringer’s solution + Glucose 5% or Ringer-Locke and Askorbinka – for dehydration
- Bene-Bak (Bird Bene Bac) – with dysbacteriosis (it is not on sale in Russia, it must be ordered from the USA, and there are no normal analogues of it);
- Antipar or Methylene blue (if you have an aquatic turtle) – from a fungus
- Terramycin / Chemi-spray / Nikovet – aluminum spray – in case of injury
- Marbocil (Marfloxin) is an excellent antibiotic. It’s worth having with you just in case.
Also in your first aid kit you should have:
- kitchen scales – for calculating dosages
- beak and nail clippers (if you have a tortoise)
It is also recommended to donate blood biochemistry once a year to check the health of the reptile.
