Hediotis Saltzmana
Hediotis Salzmann, scientific name Hedyotis salzmannii. This elegant stem plant is native to tropical South America. In nature, it forms dense accumulations along the banks of rivers and in regularly flooded places near water bodies. It has now spread throughout Central and North America.
There is some confusion with the name. For example, the plant is often supplied as Salzmann’s Oldenlandia (Oldenlandia salzmannii). In the 1990s, when it first appeared in Europe, it was called Rubiaceae sp. Argentine. In the 2000s, it was known as Bacopa sp. “Pantanal” in the US.
Most often confused with Bacopa Monnier “Short” due to their similarity. Unlike Bokopa, Hediotis Saltzmana has thinner stems with horizontally protruding light green, elongated oval leaves, located two on each whorl. The leaf blade reaches a length of 4-10 cm, the surface is smooth. In the surface position, miniature pale pink flowers appear at the tips of the shoots.
Easy to grow. For normal growth, a soft substrate (soil) and a high level of lighting will be required. It can grow both under water and on land (wet greenhouses, paludariums). Feels great even in cool water and can be used not only in aquariums, but also in open ponds.
