Maintenance and care

The key to successful keeping of Green Guppies is a clean aquarium, peaceful neighbors and a balanced diet. These universal requirements apply to all aquarium fish, so it is important to know what is meant by them.

The modest size and unpretentiousness to the habitat allow the use of a small aquarium with a minimum set of equipment, subject to regular maintenance. The latter include the timely removal of organic waste (feed leftovers, excrement) and weekly (possibly more often) replacement of part of the water with fresh water. If the number of inhabitants is 2-3 fish per 10 liters, you can install a simple airlift filter, with a denser population, you will need a full-fledged internal or external filter.

The water treatment process will not require much effort, since Guppies, by their nature, can live in a very wide range of hydrochemical parameters. Sometimes it is enough to let the water settle and it can be poured into the aquarium.

Food. The daily diet can consist exclusively of dry food, provided that they contain all the necessary vitamins and minerals. A good choice would be food designed specifically for this type of fish. The addition of frozen and live foods (brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, etc.) is welcome.

behavior and compatibility. They have a peaceful disposition. Males compete with each other for the attention of females, but it does not come to skirmishes. Everything is limited to a “demonstration of strength”, when males open their fins and swim opposite each other. Compatible with most other types of comparable size, as described in more detail in a separate article.
