Gastromyzon skitulus

Gastromyzon skitulus, scientific name Gastromyzon scitulus, belongs to the family Balitoridae (River loaches). Endemic to the island of Borneo, found only in the Sungai River basin, which flows through the territory of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, which is on northwestern parts of the island.

The Latin word scitulus in the name of the fish translates as “beautiful”, “elegant”, alluding to the remarkable pattern and coloration. On a chocolate background, light dots. The pectoral and ventral fins are painted in the same colors as the body of the fish. The tail and back fin opposite have black wide veins and translucent transitions between them. Sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed. It is problematic to distinguish a male from a female, the latter grows somewhat larger.
