Flea Remedies

The choice of anti-flea products is quite diverse, but drops are the most popular. If the pet has already picked up fleas, it is best to first consult with a veterinarian. He will examine the animal and select the most effective treatment.

Drops

This is a popular flea remedy that is effective and easy to use. Drops are applied to the withers of the animal in the neck area and between the shoulder blades, that is, in those places where the cat cannot reach with its tongue. They not only kill sexually mature fleas, but also have a preventive effect, repelling parasites and preventing them from settling in the cat’s fur. Drops must be carefully selected: for example, not all products for dogs are suitable for cats.

In addition, drops containing permethrin are dangerous for cats – this substance can lead to poisoning or even death.

Popular flea drops:

• “Advantage” (contains imidacloprid). They can treat kittens, they last for a month, they are also effective against ticks;
• “Stronghold” (contain silamectin). This remedy is also suitable for kittens, it can be used from 6 weeks. It works for a month and helps not only from external, but also from internal parasites;
• “Frontline» (contain finpronil). Can be used from 8 weeks. Valid for 2 months.

The above drugs are effective if you follow the instructions for use and dosage. Applying drops to the withers of a cat is a fairly simple procedure, and over time you will be able to easily handle the pet yourself.

Shampoos

They can be used when the animal is already infected. The pet should be thoroughly lathered, soaking all the wool with foam, avoiding contact with eyes and ears, hold for ten minutes, after which the shampoo should be washed off well.

The most popular means: Rolf Club, Fitoelita, Biovaks, Mr. Kiss, Bio Groom. All shampoos work in much the same way. It is important to choose the right tool. Be careful: after treatment, the cat will lick itself and may receive a small dose of the drug.

Sprays

Produced in the form of aerosols and cans. An effective flea remedy. True, not all cats like the sound of spraying, they can be scared of it. The pet should be treated completely, but make sure that the spray does not get into the eyes, ears and mucous membranes. In this case, the head must be processed necessarily: for example, with a cotton swab soaked in a spray. The most popular means: Hartz (valid for 7 days), Bars, Frontline (valid for up to a month).

Flea collars

The validity of the flea collar is from 4 to 7 months, depending on the manufacturer. When choosing, special attention should be paid to the composition of the material from which the collar is made: substances such as amitraz, organophosphates and permethrin are very dangerous for cats. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that the collar does not cause an allergic reaction and does not irritate the skin. The most popular manufacturers: Hartz, Bolfo, Celandine.

Other means

Fleas can also be removed with tablets (eg Comfortis) and injections (Ivermec) or powders (Zecken und Flohpuder). But such treatment is effective only with additional disinfection of the home where the cat lives. To get rid of parasites in a short time, the pet must be shown to the veterinarian, who will select the appropriate remedy.
