Fern Vindelow
Vindel’s fern is a patented ornamental cultivar of the Thai fern (Microsorum pteropus). Bred artificially in the Tropica Aquarium Plant Nursery (Denmark). Named after company founder Holger Windeløv. Appeared on free sale in 1994.
It has a modest size, growing no more than 15–20 cm in height. The leaves are dark green lanceolate. The main distinguishing feature is the structure of the tips of the leaves, which are divided into several branching processes, creating a semblance of a corolla or a bunch. Fern “Thor’s Hammer” has a similar structure, but its fragments are much larger and wider.
Considered a hardy and easy to keep plant, it is a good choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. Vindel’s fern is able to grow in a wide range of temperatures, including cool water, and at various pH and dGH values. Not picky about the level of lighting.
Rooting is recommended to be done by fixing on some rough surface, for example, on a snag or stone. Do not place in the ground, as this leads to root rot.
It can be used in aquariums where herbivorous fish live.
