Types of Aquarium Plants

Fern Trident

Fern Trident or Trident, trade name Microsorum pteropus “Trident”. It is considered one of the natural varieties of the well-known Thai fern. Presumably, the natural habitat is the island of Borneo (Sarawak) in Southeast Asia.

The plant forms a creeping shoot with numerous long narrow leaves, on which two to five lateral shoots grow on each side. With active growth, it forms a dense bush 15–20 cm high. Reproduction occurs by the appearance of young sprouts on the leaf.

As an epiphyte, the Trident Fern should be placed on a surface such as a piece of driftwood in an aquarium. The shoot is carefully fixed with fishing line, plastic clamp or special glue for plants. When the roots grow, the mount can be removed. Cannot be planted in the ground! The roots and stem immersed in the substrate quickly rot.

The rooting feature is probably the only thing you should pay attention to. Otherwise, it is considered a very simple and undemanding plant perfectly adapted to various conditions, including open ice-free ponds.
