Eriocaulon Mato Grosso
Eriocaulon Mato Grosso, trade name Eriocaulon sp. Mato Grosso. The prefix “sp.” The name indicates the absence of an exact species affiliation. Perhaps this is one of the varieties of Eriocaulons already described in science. Wild specimens of this plant were collected in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso by employees of the Japanese company Rayon Vert Aqua, which specializes in the supply of aquarium plants. Despite its South American origin, it is popular mainly in Asia (Japan, Taiwan, China and Singapore).
It is a very demanding plant and is mainly used in professional aquascaping. Eriocaulon Mato Grosso needs a nutrient-rich soil containing nitrates and phosphates. It is advisable to use special soil for the aquarium. Lighting level is high. Additional introduction of carbon dioxide is required. CO concentration2 should be about 30 mg/l. Indicators of the hydrochemical composition of water are set to very low values - pH is about 6, KH / dGH is below 4 °.
Outwardly similar to another closely related species Eriocaulon sinerium. It also forms a compact bush, but its leaves are longer and are narrow ribbons. It grows slowly and does not need pruning. In favorable conditions, lateral young plants appear once or twice a month.
