Eleocharis mini
Eleocharis mini, trade name Eleocharis sp. Mini. This low-growing herbaceous plant appeared on sale in 2012 in the Tropica nursery (Denmark) where it was imported by the American Tom Barr under the name Eleocharis sp. “Belem”. Previously it was assumed that it comes from the Belem region in Brazil, however, there is no reliable information about the exact area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbgrowth, so a neutral name was chosen, indicating belonging to the genus Eleocharis.
Eleocharis mini quickly became popular in the aquarium trade as a reliable and unpretentious plant. Outwardly, it is almost identical to the small Swamp and Eleocharis tiny, but according to the Tropica company, it has even more modest dimensions, barely exceeding 3–6 cm in height. This is partly confirmed by aquarists, but others note that in the end there is no difference. Perhaps in the future it will be transferred to one of the existing species, or allocated to an independent one.
The degree of growth is highly dependent on external conditions – the level of illumination, the density of the soil and the amount of nutrients. Eleocharis sp. ‘Mini’ produces thin, needle-shaped, light green leaves that are bunched up and often stick out to the side. When growing, it forms a dense green “lawn”, propagating through lateral shoots.
