Echinodorus Reiners Felix
Echinodorus Rainer’s Felix, the commercial name of Echinodorus “Rainer’s Kitty”, is a breeding form of another artificially bred species of Echinodorus ocelot (Echinodorus ozelot). This new variety appeared in the early 2000s in Germany at the ZooLogiCa nursery in the suburbs of Berlin thanks to the efforts of breeder Tomas Kaliebe. It is believed that Thomas jokingly named the resulting variety after a cat named Felix, who lived with the then owner of the cattery Rainer Leidtholdt. So the name “Reiners Felix” appeared.
The plant grows only up to 10-20 cm in height. Narrow elliptical leaves 2–4 cm wide have a slightly wavy edge. Young sprouts have pronounced reddish-brown hues – the legacy of Echinodorus ocelot, old leaves lose their former pattern, becoming green.
Grows only under water. Due to its compact size and undemanding environment, it is perfect for small aquariums and can be recommended for beginner aquarists. The plant perfectly adapts to a wide range of hydrochemical values, preferring warm water, nutrient soil and high light levels. It grows quite slowly.
