Echinodorus Porto Alegre

Echinodorus Porto Alegre, scientific name Echinodorus portoalegrensis. The homeland of this species is southeastern Brazil, where the plant grows in cool fast-flowing rivers and streams. The first specimens were collected by botanist Karel Rataj in 1970 in the state of Santa Catarina and named after the major port city of Porto Alegre.

Echinodorus Porto Alegre

According to the results of a study conducted in 2011, this species is a natural hybrid, i.e. appeared in nature, from Echinodorus grandiflorus and Echinodorus longiscapus.

The plant has dense dark green leaves of a lanceolate shape, and the leaf blade and petiole are strongly bent both along the axis and across. It reaches a height of up to 15 cm, and a width of 10 to 30 cm. Outwardly, it resembles dark Echinodorus (Echinodorus opacus) and they are often confused, but this does not cause any particular problems, since they grow in similar conditions.

For normal growth, a lot of free space is required. A typical ratio is one sprout per 60 liters. Although Echinodorus Porto Alegre is not picky about the level of illumination and temperature conditions, it is very sensitive to the quality and hydrochemical composition of water. Maintain low pH and dGH levels and ensure good filtration. In an aquarium with fish, additional fertilizers are not required to be introduced into the soil.
