Echinodorus osiris
Echinodorus osiris, scientific name Echinodorus osiris. One of the first plants of this genus, which began to be used in the aquarium trade. Known since 1964 under the trade name Echinodorus osiris rubra. It comes from South America from the southeastern part of Brazil. It grows in rivers and streams, as well as on wet soil along the banks.
The plant has large oval leaves with a pointed tip and a wavy edge on a relatively short petiole. The stem is absent, the leaves grow from a single center – a rosette, turning into a branched root system. The color of leaf blades is light green with reddish hues. Currently, several hybrid varieties with burgundy color have been bred. In the surface position, the leaves are oval, dense. In favorable conditions, an inflorescence of large white-pink flowers is formed.
Echinodorus osiris is one of the simple and unpretentious plants. Able to grow both in aquariums and paludariums, and in the warm season even in an artificial pond in the garden or in the country. Perfectly adaptable to a wide range of temperatures and hydrochemical values. Prefers bright light.
