Echinodorus ocelot
Echinodorus ocelot, scientific name Echinodorus ozelot. It does not occur in nature, being an ornamental hybrid between Schlueter’s Echinodorus and Barth’s Echinodorus. The plant reaches 20–50 cm in height and 20–40 cm in width. The leaves have an elliptical, somewhat wavy shape and are located on a short petiole. The coloration is green or red-brown with a pattern of dark speckles, which, unlike other “spotted” Echinodorus, are not lost even in low light. The pattern of the leaves seemed to the breeders similar to the body pattern of the predatory South American cat Ocelot, which is reflected in the name of this species.
It is considered an unpretentious plant and a good choice for a beginner aquarist. Able to grow in a wide range of temperatures and hydrochemical values. Does not require additional introduction of carbon dioxide. The minerals produced during the life of the fish will be quite enough for normal growth.
