Does a guinea pig bite?

A guinea pig bites a person only in extreme cases and under special circumstances!

“I have been breeding these animals for about ten years and have only been bitten once. And besides, a small animal, very meek by nature, which, during a painful operation in a veterinary clinic, out of fear, sunk its teeth into the object closest to its muzzle, says Wojtech Belenski, a guinea pig lover from Poland. “Unfortunately, it turned out to be my finger.”

This is a typical example of how established patterns of behavior cease to operate in a stressful situation. This happens to all living things, not just guinea pigs.

Under normal conditions, guinea pigs do not bite humans. Even if you tap her muzzle with your finger, she will not bite, but will try to lick off the salty skin secretion. If someone is bitten by a pig, he can be almost certain that he did something bad to the animal a minute before.

The reasons that the guinea pig bit the owner may be:

• stressful painful situation (an injection or other procedures in a veterinary clinic, etc.)
• violation of the personal space of the pig (for example, the pig is disturbed when she eats)
• uncomfortable or painful condition of the mumps. In this state, the pig may not respond adequately to touch and attempts to pick it up.

If trouble happened and you were bitten by a guinea pig, then just wash the wounds (there will be two of them, according to the number of teeth in the pig) with warm water and treat with any antiseptic (Miramistin, hydrogen peroxide, ordinary brilliant green, etc.)

If, under any circumstances, you are bitten by a guinea pig, do not beat her or punish her in any other way. This animal is not able to connect the punishment with the committed misconduct and the punishment will only lead to the fact that the pig is even more frightened.
