Breed group Ornamental canaries
The group of breeds of ornamental canaries includes canaries with certain characteristics and body shapes, with altered plumage properties.
The most unusual breeds of ornamental canaries are humpback canaries (only 5 species). Their body length is about 20 – 22 cm. The name of the breed group speaks for itself. Birds have a very bizarre body shape. At rest, the birds have an almost vertical landing, but the neck is arched at an angle, as if the canary is hunched over. The Belgian humpback canary was bred over 200 years ago. The plumage color can be any, however, it should be noted that these birds do not have crests, their plumage is smooth.
Also this group of breeds includes Scottish humpback, Munich, Japanese humpback and Jibaso.
In addition to humpbacked canaries, the so-called figured canaries belong to the decorative group. I would like to note the Norwich breed. These are large birds with a body length of about 16 cm, they have a large body, short legs and tail. Their plumage is quite lush, there may be tufts, the color of the plumage varies. The curly ones also include the Spanish decorative, Bernese, Yorkshire canaries, as well as the Border and Mini-border. All of them are quite different from each other.
I will also note the crested and curly canaries, which have various modifications of the pen.
The Lizard canary breed has a unique plumage, as the pattern on the feather resembles the scales of a lizard, hence the name. The first mention of this breed dates back to 1713. The colors of this breed can vary – white, yellow, red. Body length about 13 – 14 cm.
