Cryptocoryne Melman
Cryptocoryne Mehlmann, scientific name Cryptocoryne moehlmannii. It comes from Southeast Asia from the western coast of the island of Sumatra, where it grows in wetlands of rivers. Named after Friedrich Möhlmann, who first cultivated it for use in freshwater aquariums.
Outwardly, it is very similar to Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia, found in the same habitat. Both species differ in some elements of inflorescences, as well as the underside of the leaves and the color of the petioles. In Cryptocoryne Melman, the undersurface of the leaf blade and petioles are light green, while in Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia they are cinnamon or pale purple.
It is worth noting that a red-brown species is often found on sale under the name “Cryptocoryne moehlmannii”, which actually belongs to the varieties of Cryptocoryne Wendt.
It is considered unpretentious and hardy plant. Not demanding on the composition of the soil, able to adapt to different levels of illumination. Prefers soft slightly acidic water. As a rule, the introduction of additional dressings is not required if there are fish in the aquarium – a natural source of organic fertilizers.
