Corydoras Adolf
Corydoras adolfoi, scientific name Corydoras adolfoi, belongs to the family Callichthyidae. Named after the exporter of South American fish, Adolfo Schwarz, thanks to whom this species gained its popularity in the aquarium trade. Catfish comes from a limited region of the Rio Negro basin (Spanish and port. Rio Negro) in the Brazilian municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira (port. São Gabriel da Cachoeira). The aquatic habitat in this pristine equatorial Amazon is characterized by acidic pH values with low carbonate hardness. The abundance of organic matter (fallen leaves and branches, coastal vegetation) saturates the water with tannins and organic acids, coloring it in a rich brown (tea) color.
Description
Adult individuals reach a length of about 6 cm. The color of the body and fins is predominantly light. A distinctive feature of the species is the black back on which there is a bright red spot at the base of the dorsal fin. On the head, a black stroke stretches through the eyes, resembling a bandage. Sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed, it is rather problematic to distinguish between male and female.
