Catfish Pygmy

Pygmy catfish or Corydoras Pygmy, scientific name Corydoras pygmaeus, belongs to the Callichthyidae family. It comes from the Madeira River basin, the largest tributary of the Amazon (South America). Catfish does not occur in the main channel, but prefers its numerous tributaries, small rivers and streams, keeps mainly among aquatic vegetation, roots or fallen branches of trees, which serve as a shelter for it. In the rainy season, it can swim in flooded areas of the forest.

Catfish Pygmy

Description

One of the smallest Corydoras, the size of an adult rarely exceeds 3 cm. Outwardly, it is somewhat different from its counterparts (we are not talking about size), it has a low, slender body and more resembles a classic fish that lives in the water column. The last statement is also true by the fact that Catfish Pygmy swims actively throughout the aquarium, and is not constantly at the bottom, like other catfish.

The coloration is rather inconspicuous – a gray dark back and a light belly, two wide light stripes stretch along the sides, starting on the head and continuing to the tail. The fins are transparent with dark outlines of the rays.
