Caspian tortoise
Unpretentious freshwater turtles with an olive shell.
The Caspian tortoise belongs to the Asian freshwater tortoises. Her body length is about 30 cm.
The Caspian tortoise has a flat oval shell. The carapace (upper part of the shell) is olive-brown with yellow stripes, and the plastron (lower part) is yellow with dark spots. On the body are clear light yellow stripes. The carapace of a young individual has a keeled shape, but becomes rounded over time. Males can be recognized by their longer tail and concave plastron.
Caspian tortoises, with proper care, live an average of 30 years.
These turtles are unpretentious and perfect for home keeping. The main thing is that the aquaterrarium for them should be very spacious. The optimal ratio of land and water is 1/3. Reptiles are not so demanding on water parameters, but cleanliness must be regularly maintained.
Caspian tortoises are omnivorous, but this does not mean that they can be fed with any food from the table. The diet should be suitable for the pet and be balanced. Choose special foods designed for aquatic turtles.
In nature, from November to March, Caspian tortoises hibernate. You can continue this tradition or do without it. When kept at home, hibernation is optional, but it is believed that it contributes to breeding. Please consult with the breeder for details.
In the wild, Caspian tortoises are found in southern Europe, Western Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, the Caucasus and southern Turkmenistan. They inhabit all kinds of water bodies, but prefer flowing ones. Turtles love to bask on land, but never go far from a body of water. At the slightest danger, they immediately plunge into the water.
