Canadian Sphynx: velor miracle
The Canadian Sphynx only seems to be completely naked: in fact, its warm skin is covered with a small soft fluff, reminiscent of velor to the touch.
High heels
The Sphynx is a medium-sized cat with a strong and muscular body and a broad chest. The paws of Canadians are with a slight curvature, and the fingers are long, with thick pads – the feeling that sphinxes walk on heels. And they do it very beautifully, conquering with a unique graceful gait.
In folds
The skin of the Canadian Sphynx is thick, with folds. In adults, the folds are preserved mainly around the muzzle, in the neck and between the ears. But kittens are born wrinkled from the ears to the tip of the tail and remain so for at least a month. Vibrissae (whiskers) are either completely absent or very short.
Standard color
According to the breed standard, sphinxes are:
- monochromatic (black, blue, chocolate, purple, red, cream, white);
- bicolor (a combination of any of the listed colors with white);
- harlequin (white with spots);
- Ван (the animal is practically white, but there is a spot on the head that catches the ears, a painted tail and no more than three small spots on the body);
- color-point (4 varieties);
- tabby
- brindle.
Description of the breed, character
Ears – the “calling card” of the Canadian Sphynx – are very large, straight and strongly spaced. They are necessarily rounded to the tips, and at the base on the outside they may have fluff. But it is too small, so the ears quickly become dirty and require special care.
The shape of the eyes is tapering to the corners, resembling a lemon, which is how the Canadian differs from the Don type. The distance between the eyes may be greater than the eyes themselves. The nose is straight, at the point of transition from the forehead to the nose there should be a pronounced “dimple” or “hollow”.
The breed is distinguished by docility and playfulness. Sphynx quickly become attached to people, love outdoor games, interact well with children, love to pose and feel like a star. A remarkable feature of Canadians is their trainability: they lend themselves well to training, they are easy to educate. In the hope of getting a treat, the sphinx will use all its charm!
The image of the Canadian Sphynx group Aerosmith chose for the cover of their album “Nine Lives” (Nine Lives). In addition, you can see representatives of the breed in many films (“Austin Powers”, “Alien”). And in the USA they even publish the Naked Truth newspaper dedicated to these extraordinary cats.
