Appearance of a black-headed parrot (nandaya)
The black-headed parrot (nandaya) is a medium long-tailed parrot with a body length of about 30 cm and a weight of up to 140 g. The main color of the body is green, the head to the area behind the eyes is black-brown. A bluish stripe on the throat. The belly is more olive. The flight feathers in the wings are blue. The rump is bluish, the undertail is grey-brown. Legs are orange. The beak is black, the paws are gray. The periorbital ring is naked and white or grey.
The life expectancy of a black-headed parrot (nandai) with proper care is up to 40 years.
Habitat and life in nature of the black-headed parrot (nandaya)
Black-headed parrots (nandaya) live in the southeastern part of Bolivia, northern Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. In addition, there are 2 introduced populations in the USA (Florida, Los Angeles, South Carolina) and North America. In Florida, the population numbers several hundred individuals.
Heights are about 800 meters above sea level. Prefer lowlands, cattle pastures.
Black-headed parrots (nandaya) feed on fruits, seeds, various parts of plants, nuts, berries, often visit and damage crops.
When feeding on the ground, parrots are rather clumsy, but in flight they are very maneuverable and mobile. Often kept middle tier. Usually found in flocks of several dozen birds. They can fly to the watering hole with other types of parrots. They are pretty noisy.

Reproduction of the black-headed parrot (nandaya)
The nesting season of the black-headed parrot (nandai) in its natural habitat falls on November. Often nests are arranged in small colonies. They nest in hollows of trees. The female lays 3 to 5 eggs and incubates them on her own for about 24 days. Black-headed parrot (nandai) chicks leave the nest at about 8 weeks of age. Their parents still feed them for several weeks.
