Basic Rules for Your Puppy

Who is the leader of the pack?
Dogs are pack animals and need a leader. In our case, the leader is you. Following some rules of behavior from an early age will help your puppy feel calm and will strengthen your relationship. Your puppy should perceive you and your family as standing over him and taking care of him. The following rules will help you achieve this:
Rules of conduct at the table
In the wild, the pack leader always eats first. Your puppy will get used to this easily, but you must reinforce this thought in him. Feeding your pet should be different in time from your meals. If you give him pieces from your table, he will begin to think that this is in the order of things, and subsequently it will be very difficult to wean him from the habit of begging. This can make life difficult for you, especially when you have guests.
Sleeping area
The leader always gets the best place to sleep, so your puppy needs to know that your bed is a no-go zone for him. If you start letting him get on your bed, you will never get him out of there again. Subsequently, he will begin to consider your bed as his territory and will protect it.
He’s not always the center of attention
Your puppy should respect your need to be alone sometimes as the leader of the pack. If you do not train him to do this, he will feel that he must participate in everything that you do – even what you would rather do alone. To teach your puppy to not always be fussed around, sit back and ignore him for 20 to 30 minutes. This may seem like a cruel measure, but in this way you will let the puppy know that you will not appear every time at his request or desire.
