Bacopa caroliniana, scientific name Bacopa caroliniana is a popular aquarium plant. Originates from southeastern US states, where it grows in swamps and wetlands of rivers. Over the years it has been successfully cultivated, several new varieties have appeared with smaller leaves and a different color – pinkish white. Varieties sometimes differ significantly from each other and can be perceived as separate plant species. The most striking feature is the citrus scent of the leaves. It is clearly visible if the plant grows not completely submerged in water, for example, in a paludarium.

Bacopa Carolina is not demanding on conditions, feels good at various levels of illumination, does not require additional introduction of carbon dioxide and fertilizers into the soil. Reproduction also does not require much effort. It is enough to cut off the cutting or side shoot, and you get a new sprout.

The color of the leaves depends on the mineral composition of the substrate and the illumination. In bright light and low levels of nitrogenous compounds (nitrates, nitrites etc.) brown or bronze hues appear. At low levels of phosphates, a pink color is obtained. The leaves are mostly green.
