Avran virginian
Avran virginsky, scientific name Gratiola virginiana. This swamp plant is widely distributed throughout North America from Mexico to Canada and Alaska. Just like its European relative, Avran officinalis has been used in the aquarium trade relatively recently since 2012.
When immersed, it resembles some species of Bacopa. The stems are thick and rigid, the leaf blades are oblong-elliptical in shape, slightly ribbed with a wavy edge. The leaves are light green with brown tints, the aerial leaves are completely green. The plant grows up to half a meter in height. When reaching the surface in the air, white flowers appear in the axils of the leaves. After flowering, seeds remain in place of flowers, which, when dropped into water, sink and eventually give new shoots.
Avran virginiana is an unpretentious and hardy plant capable of growing in various environments, both completely submerged in water and on moist soils in paludariums and greenhouses. Not demanding on the hydrochemical composition of water and light levels, perfectly adapts to low temperatures. In aquariums, it is desirable to plant in soft substrates or special soil.
