Aquarium decorations: aquascaping and the “living sea”

Every aquarist strives to ensure that the “underwater world” becomes a true decoration of the interior. However, when decorating an aquarium, one should not forget about the well-being of its inhabitants.

What is good and what is bad in aquarium decoration?

The main thing to remember is that only natural can be beautiful and good.

Everything made of plastic (divers, boats, etc.) is, to put it mildly, not the best option. Even if the aquarium was created for a child, you should not put toys under the water. An aquarium can be made interesting without such dubious decorations. Why is plastic bad for decorating an aquarium? Firstly, all types of plastic sooner or later (rather sooner) release a lot of toxins into the water. Yes, good, expensive decorations can be covered with harmless paint, but we most often sell “budget” options from the “made in China” series, which sometimes cause the death of fish. Secondly, large, voluminous plastic decorations may be appropriate, if you have a very voluminous aquarium, but at the same time a natural rock measuring 10×15 meters will not fit there. Therefore, artificial materials are used here, as much as possible resembling natural ones. But in a small aquarium, this is inappropriate.

There is aquascaping, and there is a “living sea”. There is a significant difference between them. In the first version, everything is “green”, in the second – “blue”, and they are perceived differently.

What to choose for aquarium decoration: aquascaping or “living sea”?

As a rule, in the office and in general in workrooms, green is chosen, as it stimulates efficiency. The brighter the green, the better. In such aquariums, the grass looks like it has just grown: it is juicy, beautiful, rich in colors. And taking into account the fact that gray or black shades prevail in office premises, bright accents are needed. All this has a beneficial effect on the workflow. It is better to admire such an aquarium during the day, as the plants fold their leaves at night and do not look so impressive.

Many people like aquarium plants with big leaves, but big leaves equals big volume. Therefore, the smaller the aquarium, the more “modest” the plants should be. If the aquarium is installed where there is no intensive work, but people need to relax, blue shades are preferable, which means they choose a marine aquarium. And in a room where there are a lot of art objects, such an aquarium can look like a separate piece of art. The marine aquarium looks spectacular in the evening and at night, so if you need an aquarium for your home, where you visit only at dusk, this is a great choice.
