Anubias giant
Anubias giant, scientific name Anubias gigantea. Occurs from the tropics of West Africa, grows along the rocky banks of rivers in a semi-aquatic position. As the name suggests, this plant is considered one of the largest among Anubias, reaching a height of up to one meter. Moreover, such impressive dimensions are achieved due to long vertically growing petioles, the length of which can be twice the length of an already not small leaf. The leaf blade is lanceolate or ovoid in shape.
It is rarely used in the aquarium trade due to its size and inability to grow underwater, so it is most widely used in paludariums. Only since 2010 have varieties been bred that can grow completely submerged in water. In aquariums, Anubias hastifolia has taken its place, it looks identical and differs only in the structure of the flowers and is often even supplied under the name Anubias giant. Not suitable for hobby aquariums.
