Corydoras Amanda Jane, scientific name Corydoras amandajanea, belongs to the family Callichthyidae (Shelled or Callichthy catfishes). The fish was discovered in 1995 by biologist Mrs. Amanda Jane Sands, after whom it was named. Wild catfish are collected in the Brazilian municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, one of the tributaries of the Rio Negro. The natural habitat is probably limited to the upper basin of the Rio Negro, located among the dense Amazonian forest.

Description

Adults reach a length of about 6 cm. The body is light silvery or beige, depending on the specific population, dark specks may appear. Fins are translucent. A characteristic feature is a black spot at the base of the dorsal fin and a black stroke on the head, between which a reddish pigment appears.
