The Welsh Corgi is one of the oldest English dog breeds, which is divided into two types: the Cardigan and the Pembroke. Fundamentally, they differ in color and some character traits: Cardigans are more calm and cautious, while Pembrokes are more mobile and energetic. But that’s where the differences end.
Corgis are incredibly funny dogs with short legs. They look very cute, but their small size is deceiving.
First of all, it should be remembered that dogs of this breed, albeit small, but shepherd dogs. They are smart, easy to train and quickly learn new, even complex commands .
Corgis are very curious and love everything new. Even training can bore them if classes are the same every time. The owner should take this into account, introduce additional elements and change the order of exercises, if he wants to achieve obedience and interest in the process from the Corgi.
Dogs of this breed are very observant. They understand well when it is possible to approach the owner and caress, and when it is better to keep a distance. One gets the impression that they understand how they influence the owners, and use their natural charm and magnetism, begging for treats. It is very difficult to refuse a Corgi, but if you constantly follow the dog’s lead, then she may have problems with being overweight.
Welsh Corgi Behaviour
No wonder the Corgi is the favorite breed of the Queen of Great Britain. On the one hand, these dogs have true English restraint and tact, do not create unnecessary noise, rarely give a voice in business, and on the other hand, they build friendly relations with all family members and love to play.
Corgis were originally used for herding livestock. This habit seems to be genetic. Corgis can grab small children by the heels, forcing them to change course in the direction the dog wants. In addition, Corgis will actively try to herd everyone they can. Usually in the course of training it is possible to get rid of this obsessive undertaking.
Welsh Corgi dogs are true friends who treat all family members equally. They love to be the center of attention and try to impress and make their loved ones laugh.
Welsh Corgi Care
Corgis shed a lot. In normal times, they should be combed 2-3 times a week. During the molting period, this has to be done every day.
Corgis love to walk. The optimal mode for them is 2-3 walks a day for an hour. But this is perhaps the only difficulty that the owner may face.
Due to their compact size, these dogs feel great not only in large houses, but also in city apartments. The main thing for them is to have their own equipped place to sleep and rest. Otherwise, Corgis are very unpretentious.
