Shrimp Red wine (Caridina cf. cantonensis “Wine Red”), belongs to the Atyidae family. The result of the selection work of breeders in China. Successful experience was adopted by specialists from Germany. Due to its ubiquitous distribution, this variety has become widely available. Differs in saturated raspberry coloring of a body. The size of an adult rarely exceeds 3.5 cm, and life expectancy in favorable conditions is about 2 years.

Maintenance and care

Perfect for keeping in a community aquarium with peaceful small fish, larger specimens will certainly want to snack on such small shrimp. The preferred water parameters are in rather narrow ranges – soft and slightly acidic, but they can successfully adapt to other pH and dGH values, however, in this case, successful dilution is not guaranteed. The design should include areas with dense vegetation and places for shelters in the form of caves, grottoes, gorges or various hollow tubes, ceramic pots, etc.

Adult females give birth every 4-6 weeks, but in a community tank, the young are endangered by fish, so thickets of plants such as Riccia will help keep the brood.

They eat all types of food for aquarium fish (flakes, granules, frozen meat products). When kept together with fish, separate feeding is not required, the shrimp will feed on the remnants of food. In addition, they are happy to eat various organic matter and algae. To avoid damage to plants, herbal supplements from chopped pieces of vegetables and fruits should be added. The pieces are regularly renewed to prevent them from decomposing and spoiling the water.
