This is a rather rare, but very beautiful breed of dog. At the origins of it is the real royal dog – the white royal hound (Chien Blanc du Roy), which was one of the most popular breeds at the court of the French monarchs. The disbanding of the packs of hunting dogs at the royal court occurred after the revolution in France. However, Gaston Hublot du Rivault prevented the final and irretrievable loss of the blood of the royal dogs, who, on the basis of the white royal hound, brought out a completely new breed, named after the area – the Château de Billy in France. To breed billy (also referred to as biyi), several other breeds were used in the 19th century – Seris, Montebeuf and Larry, which are now considered lost.

A new breed of hunting dogs inherited from their ancestors an amazing scent, excellent endurance and energetic temperament. What brought her popularity in France, where she was used when hunting roe deer and wild boars. In 1886, the breed standard was adopted.

Billy is a beautiful, harmoniously built dog of pure white, milk coffee or white with tan markings. Males can reach 70 centimeters at the withers, females can grow up to 62 centimeters at the withers. The eyes of the animals are dark, like the nose, the head is graceful, with clear lines. The dogs themselves are light-footed, lean. They work great on large animals and have a clear voice.

Since its inception, the breed has experienced a serious crisis that has put it on the brink of destruction. After the devastating World War II, the number of billies was significantly reduced, and the breed had to be restored almost from scratch. Fortunately, thanks to the active participation of devoted fans of these wonderful hunting dogs, including the descendant of the founder of the breed, the billy is no longer in danger of extinction, despite the fact that these dogs are rarely found outside of France. Officially as a separate breed of billy was recognized International Cynological Federation in 1973. The cost of a puppy starts from 1 thousand euros.
