At first glance, unsightly, the Border Terrier is one of the most beloved breeds of the British. It was bred in the 19th century specifically for hunting small and medium game: foxes, martens and badgers. A small dog could easily penetrate narrow holes, and long paws allowed it to overcome tens of kilometers at high speed.
Today, representatives of the breed are increasingly started as companions. It is understandable: these good-natured and restless dogs are able to charm anyone. They become attached to all family members, and give special preference to children. Animals are ready for hours of fun and play with the kids. Although some can be impatient, especially in puppyhood.
The Border Terrier is happy with his family and needs attention. Leaving a dog alone for a long time is not recommended: it is hard to experience separation. A dog left to itself will quickly find entertainment, but the owner is unlikely to appreciate it.
Hunters still use Border Terriers for work. Moreover, they are popular among farmers and shepherds. And recently, representatives of the breed are found among therapy dogs in medical institutions. The secret of such demand is that these terriers are wonderful students. They are attentive and obedient, the main thing here is to find the right approach to raising a dog, and she will be happy to learn everything new.
In everyday life, these are balanced animals, they are calm and reasonable. True, when it comes to hunting, it seems that dogs are being replaced: small terriers become fierce, purposeful and very independent.
Dogs are able to get along with other animals in the house, but only if the puppy appeared later than their neighbors. At the same time, there should be no problems at all with other members of the family: Border Terriers work great when hunting in a pack, they are able to compromise. As for cats, conflicts are likely, although border terriers often react rather indifferently to them. If the cat is friendly, then the chances of their peaceful life are high.
