Are females more aggressive?

Yes, female iguanas are more aggressive than males. If you plant two males together, they will live normally. True, if a female is added to them, the world comes to an end. In any case, it is better to keep one iguana. If they fight, it’s to the death.

Are iguanas aggressive towards humans?

If you try, for example, to pet an iguana in a terrarium, it will most likely defend itself on its territory. Iguanas have 3 ways to protect themselves:

  1. Blade-like teeth. Iguanas don’t bite, they cut.
  2. claws.
  3. Tail. This is a very dangerous weapon – the iguana can hit with his tail so that scars remain.

Therefore, you need to be very careful when removing iguanas from the terrarium.

Can an iguana get along with other pets?

Iguanas do not pay attention to other animals, they do not care who else lives in the house.

Can iguanas be bred in captivity?

Yes, iguanas breed in captivity. But I never did it.

How to keep and care for iguanas?

In a room where iguanas are kept, there should be a timer that controls the lighting time. The program is set: for example, 6 hours dark, 6 hours light. And the light turns on with an ultraviolet lamp: iguanas are very fond of crawling out into the sun and lying under ultraviolet light. In the terrarium, there must be a bathing shelf, on which the iguana can lie above the shelf, there must be a lamp. Thus, the iguana can lie on the shelf if he wants to be in the sun, or under the shelf if he prefers the shade at the moment. We use newspapers as bedding. wide and 2 meters high. As a rule, iguanas are not released from terrariums, and they don’t need to. But once a week in sunny warm weather, we try to take our iguana outside so that she can nibble grass. But you need to watch so that the iguana does not run away.

How big do iguanas get?

The body of an iguana can be 70 – 90 cm long plus the same tail. Our iguana (she is now 4-5 years old) is about 50 cm long, and the length of the tail is about 40-45 cm.

Do iguanas follow their owners?

Yes. There are species of iguanas that are venomous, but their venom is not capable of killing humans. However, let’s say they bite a mouse, the mouse leaves, and the iguana trudges after it – waiting for the poison to work and the mouse can be eaten. And when they bite the owner, they also follow, waiting for the prey to immobilize – that’s the whole secret of such “devotion”.

Can iguanas be tamed?

Iguanas become, rather, not tame, but domestic. The iguana will not run to the call. But she can coexist peacefully next to a person – unless, of course, you encroach on her home.
