How to properly feed a cat?

Balance and security

Food intended for a cat should take into account the anatomy and physiology of the animal.

So, the cat’s stomach has a weak ability to expand, so the food should be low in volume, but at the same time saturated with energy. The pet’s body is not able to regulate the breakdown of protein, that is, a lot of dietary proteins are required in the diet. A cat cannot produce vitamin A, niacin, taurine and arginine on its own – therefore, they must be present in food.

Some foods are poisonous to animals. The owner needs to protect the pet from onions, garlic, grapes. It is undesirable for a cat to consume milk – it does not have enough enzymes to cope with lactose. It is also not recommended to give your pet raw meat and raw eggs – they may contain harmful bacteria.

Bones are strictly contraindicated – a cat can damage the esophagus and internal organs.

The right combination

When choosing food for a cat, it is important to focus on its age and lifestyle. Kittens, adults and seniors need to be offered different foods. The same is true for neutered and non-neutered pets.

Manufacturers of finished feeds produce a wide range of appropriate rations. Examples include: Royal Canin Kitten, Pro Plan Junior – for kittens, Kitekat Meat Feast, Perfect Fit Adult – for adult cats, Whiskas Lamb Stew – for cats over 7 years old, Hill’s Science Plan Feline Mature Adult 7 – for the elderly, and Royal Canin Neutered Weight Balance – for sterilized cats.

To make the food as useful as possible, the owner of the cat needs to provide the animal wet diet twice a day and dry – during the whole day. Each of them has the properties necessary to maintain the health of a pet: wet ones saturate his body with water, saving him from urolithiasis, prevent obesity, and dry ones take care of the oral cavity and stabilize digestion. The cat should always have access to fresh water.

Different tastes

Another feature of the cat is pickiness in food. Therefore, it needs to be fed in a variety of ways, regularly offering the pet ready-made diets with new interesting combinations of tastes and textures.

In particular, wet rations are produced under the Whiskas brand in the form of mini-fillet, cream soup, pate, chunks in jelly and stew. As for flavors, all sorts of combinations are possible here: Sheba Pleasure beef and rabbit food, Kitekat ration with beef in jelly, Whiskas sour cream and vegetable pads and so on.

In addition to the listed brands, a wide range of diets for cats is presented under the brands Acana, Bozita, 1st Choice, Go! and many others.
