How to bathe a kitten?

Rule #1: Don’t scare

Before the procedure, calm down yourself: the animal perfectly feels the mood of the owner and can adopt it. Sharp movements, raised tones, emotions – all this will be transmitted to the kitten and cause unnecessary anxiety. He can run away in a panic, and catching a wet, frightened pet is not a pleasant experience. The first bath will largely determine how he will endure this procedure in the future.

Rule #2: Choose the right bathing container

It is also important what to bathe a kitten in. A small basin or sink is best. The pet must confidently stand on its paws on a non-slip surface – for this you can put a towel, rubber or silicone mat. The water level should reach up to the neck.

Rule number 3: Do not make a mistake with the water temperature

Too hot or cold water will not give the animal pleasure, on the contrary, it can scare and permanently turn away from bathing. The preferred temperature is 36-39 degrees Celsius.

Rule #4: Flush the dirtiest areas

While swimming, you need to pay attention, first of all, to the paws, the skin on the ears, the groin, the stomach and the area under the tail. In these places accumulates, as a rule, the most dirt and grease.

At the same time, it is worth making sure that water does not get into the ears: this can cause serious health problems, up to otitis media. To do this, you can insert cotton swabs into your ears while washing.

Rule #5: Avoid showering, but rinse thoroughly

A strong stream of water or a shower can frighten a kitten, so you should not rinse it in this way. It is best to simply change the water in the container in which bathing takes place. The head can be moistened with a sponge or wet hands. Care must be taken to ensure that detergents – it is better to use special shampoos for kittens that are sold in pet stores – are well washed off. After bathing, the pet will still lick itself, and if the remnants of “chemistry” remain on the coat, it may be poisoned.

Rule #6: Dry Well

In the room where bathing takes place, there should be no drafts that can provoke a cold. After washing the kitten, wrap it in a towel and dry it well. You can try to dry it with a hair dryer, choosing the minimum speed and temperature to start. Then be sure to comb the hair.
