Elf cat History
Elf cats were bred in the USA quite recently. Literally ten years ago, no one could even imagine that such an unusual cat would appear. In 2006, an American breeder and his girlfriend came up with the idea to create a new breed. After long and painstaking experiments, elves appeared. It is believed that this cat was born as a result of a long and systematic crossing of two breeds of domestic cats.
The progenitors of the elf breed are the American Curl and the Sphynx.
Choosing a name for a new breed, the breeders remembered the fabulous creatures – elves, whose peculiarity was unusual ears. Since the representatives of the new breed also have the main noticeable feature of the ears – large, slightly bent back, it was decided to call them elves.
The breed received recognition in the TICA association in 2007.
Russian elves are bred in a Moscow nursery. In one litter, an elf can have from 1 to 5 kittens.

Elves love children immensely. They can be safely left even with the smallest ones – cats will gently and calmly play with them. Elves have a flexible nature, so they can find an approach and get along with any animals, even dogs.
By nature, the elves are very similar to their closest relatives – the sphinxes. There are similarities with Siamese cats.
Elves do not tolerate loneliness, so the breed is not suitable for very busy people. And when the owner of the house, the elf does not leave him a single step.
Terveys ja hoito
Thorough data on health, predisposition to diseases and hereditary diseases in elves are not yet available due to the fact that the breed is very young. Due to their lack of fur, they are prone to colds and infections. Therefore, it is desirable to exclude drafts.
Elf grooming should be regular. In addition to monthly washing, you need to clean your ears all the time. Between baths, you can wipe your pet’s skin with a damp cloth. If the elf has small areas of wool, then the cat needs a regular haircut. If this is not done, acne will appear.
