APPEARANCE OF THE BROW-EARED RED-TAIL PARROT

Small parakeets with a body length of 26 cm and a weight of up to 94 g. The wings, forehead and neck are green behind, the head and chest are grey-brown. On the throat and to the middle part of the chest there are longitudinal stripes. There is a red-brown spot on the lower part of the belly. The inner tail feathers are red, the outer ones are green. There is a brownish-gray spot near the ear. Flight feathers are blue. The periorbital ring is naked and white. Clues are brown-gray, there is a white bare cere. Both sexes are colored the same. 3 subspecies are known, differing in habitat and color elements.

Life expectancy with proper care is about 25 – 30 years.

HABITATING AND LIFE IN THE NATURE OF THE BROWN-EARED PARROT

The species lives in Paraguay, Uruguay, in the southeastern part of Brazil and northern Argentina. In the northern part of the range, the birds keep to the foothills and altitudes of about 1400 m above sea level. In other areas, lowlands and altitudes of about 1000 meters above sea level are kept. They gravitate towards agricultural land, and are also found in city parks and gardens. Usually they live in small flocks of 6-12 individuals, sometimes they cluster in flocks of up to 40 individuals.

Basically, the diet includes fruits, flowers, seeds of various plants, nuts, berries, and sometimes insects. Sometimes they visit cereal crops.

BREEDING OF THE BROWN-EARED RED-Tail

The nesting season is October-December. They usually nest in hollows and hollows of trees. The clutch usually contains 4-7 eggs, which are incubated by the female for 22 days. The chicks leave the nest at the age of 7-8 weeks and still stay close to their parents for some time, and they feed them until they are completely independent.
