“Black Spots”
Aquarium Fish Disease

“Black Spots”

“Black spots” is a rare and fairly harmless disease caused by the larvae of one of the trematode species (parasitic worms), for which the fish is only one of the stages of the life cycle.

This type of trematode does not have a harmful effect on fish and cannot reproduce at this stage, as well as be transmitted from one fish to another.

Symptoms:

Dark, sometimes black, spots with a diameter of 1 or more millimeters appear on the body of the fish and on the fins. The presence of spots does not affect the behavior of the fish.

Cause of parasites:

Trematodes can enter the aquarium only through snails caught in natural waters, since they are the first link in the life cycle of the parasite, which, in addition to snails, consists of fish and birds that feed on fish.

Prevention:

You should not settle snails from natural reservoirs in the aquarium, they can be carriers of not only this harmless disease, but also deadly infections.

Treatment:

It is not necessary to carry out the treatment procedure.
