The first scientific description of this plant genus was given by the Austrian botanist Heinrich Wilhelm Schott in 1857 during his Egyptian expedition. because of Because of their “shade-loving” nature, the plants were named after Anubis, the god of the afterlife in ancient Egypt.

Considered by many as one of the most unpretentious aquarium plants. They do not need a high level of lighting and the additional introduction of carbon dioxide, they are not sensitive to nutrient deficiencies in the soil. They can grow both in aquariums and in paludariums in a humid environment. In addition, due to the tough leaves, Anubias can be used in aquariums with Goldfish and African Cichlids, which are prone to eating aquatic vegetation.
