Ammania pedicella

Nesea pedicelata or Ammania pedicellata, scientific name Ammannia pedicellata. It was previously known under a different name Nesaea pedicellata, but since 2013 there have been changes with the classification and this plant was assigned to the genus Ammanium. It should be noted that the old name still found on many thematic sites and in the literature.

Ammania pedicella

The plant comes from the swamps of East Africa. Has a massive orange or bright red stem. The leaves are green elongated lanceolate. The upper leaves may turn pink, but turn green as they grow. Able to grow completely submerged in water in aquariums and paludariums in a humid environment. Due to their size, they are recommended for tanks from 200 liters, used in the middle or far ground.

It is considered a rather capricious plant. For normal growth, the substrate must be rich in nitrogen substances. In a new aquarium, they have problems with them, so top dressing is required. In a well-established balanced ecosystem, fertilizers occur naturally (fish excrement). The introduction of carbon dioxide is not necessary. It has been noted that Ammania pedicelata is sensitive to a high content of potassium in the soil, which enters with food, so it is advisable to pay attention to this element in the composition of fish food.
